Washington and Lee University renamed its formally titled Lee-Jackson House to Simpson House in honor of Pamela Hemenway Simpson (1946-2011). Simpson received her Ph.D. in Art History from the University of Delaware in 1974 and was the first woman to be appointed a tenured professor at Washington and Lee University.
