A member of our faculty and many doctoral students received grants from the Center for Material Culture Studies this past summer and fall. Dr. Sandy Isenstadt received a grant from the Faculty Research Publication Fund; doctoral candidate Sarah Leonard and doctoral student Kristen Nassif received Graduate Research Presentation Fund awards; and doctoral candidates Caitlin Hutchison, Kiersten Mounce and Hannah Segrave received Graduate Research Travel Fund awards.
For an example of how recipients utilize grants from the Center for Material Culture Studies: doctoral candidate Kiersten Mounce will spend winter term studying in the Archives Nationales (Paris), supported by this travel grant from the CMCS. Her research focuses on the French steel industry, and what it can tell us about Chaise sandows for the first chapter of her dissertation, "The Revolutionary Life of the Chaise sandows, 1928-1937."
