Professor Julie McGee built the course "Curating Hidden Collections and the Black Archive" around a box of 53 late 19th- and early 20th-century photographs donated by alumna Jessica Porter.
McGee instructed 11 graduate students, including art history master's student Bridget Killian, on how to preserve,
archive
and research the collection of photographs. To uncover the history of the collection, entitled the "Baltimore Collection," students studied the fashions, hairstyles and other period items within the photos. WUSA 9 news aired an interview with McGee discussing the project on Dec. 12.
