A review of Professor Jason Hill's book Artist as Reporter: Weegee, Ad Reinhardt and the PM News Picture was published in History of Photography on May 12. Hill's book reflects on the history of PM, a progressive New York daily newspaper, and journalistic contributions made to the publication by curator Holger Cahill; abstract painter Ad Reinhardt; photographers Weegee and Lisette Model; and filmmaker, photographer and editor Ralph Steiner.
"As visual culture historian Jason Hill demonstrates in his eye-opening and erudite study, PM probed, deconstructed, and ultimately transformed (at least for a few, perhaps many) the often-glossy assumptions that drove conventional news image-making during this pivotal period in art and media," said reviewer Jason Weems.
