News Van Horn wins Director's Essay Prize

​Congratulations to Professor Jennifer Van Horn, the winner of the National Portrait Gallery's inaugural Director's Essay Prize for her essay, "'The Dark Iconoclast': African Americans' Artistic Resistance in the Civil War South."

A formal celebration in honor of Professor Van Horn will be held at the National Portrait Gallery in Washington, DC on September 6, 2019 at 4:00 pm. There she will present themes from her essay in a lecture that is open to the public.
