Professor Margaret Werth delivered her paper entitled "Among Men: Some Portraits by Manet in the 1870s" during the international symposium "Manet: New Directions" at the Getty Museum on Dec. 8, 2019. In association with the exhibition "Manet and Modern Beauty," the symposium featured American and European perspectives on Édouard Manet's life and artwork.

"Werth considered masculinity in Manet's paintings of the 1870s and the various issues of difference raised by a selection of portraits," said doctoral student Genevieve Westerby, who attended Werth's lecture.
