Biography
​Ph.D. candidate Gabriella Johnson was named a predoctoral research resident at the Center for the Art and Architectural History of Port Cities in Naples, Italy, from September 2022 through June 2023. At the center, she will work on her dissertation, "Galatea's Realm: The Art of Coral, Shells, and Marine Fossils in Early Modern Sicily, Naples, and the Maltese Islands."
Gabriella is also recipient of the 2020 Sir Denis Mahon Essay Prize for her paper "The Elephant in the Room: Simon Vouet's Catoptric Elephant, Originality, and the Magic of Optics."
