    Nineteenth- and twentieth-century American art; craft; ecocriticism.

    Biography

    Julia Hamer-Light is a first-year direct Ph.D. student studying American art. She received her B.A. in American Studies from Yale University (2018), where much of her coursework related to critical geography, ecocriticism and material culture. At the Yale University Art Gallery, she was a gallery guide and a student research assistant in the Department of American Paintings & Sculpture. Since graduation, she has conducted provenance research at the Toledo Museum of Art and contributed to an exhibition on the supernatural and paranormal in American art at the Minneapolis Institute of Art. At the University of Delaware, she will take a material culture and eco-critical approach to the social, economic and cultural construction of the category of "craft" in the United States in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.
