Jennifer Van Horn has an article in the newest volume of
The Art Bulletin. Titled "'The Dark Iconoclast': African Americans' Artistic Resistance in the Civil War South," it investigates "...the meaning of iconoclastic acts enslaved and newly freed African Americans committed against white elites' portraits and other genteel artifacts during the American Civil War (1861-65)."
