Alba Campo Rosillo at Winterthur

Doctoral candidate Alba Campo Rosillo gave a presentation on the research she has developed in the context of a British Design History course from the Winterthur Program in American Material Culture. She presented on a Peace Medal made by the Quakers in 1757 to restore friendly relations with the Lenape people. The medal, from the Winterthur collection, raises interesting questions about the entanglement of competing imperial powers at the time in the colonial Americas, and about regional strategies of survival in this context: from establishing forbidden alliances to counterfeiting foreign currency.
