Emelie Gevalt at the Washington Decorative Arts Forum

Emelie Gevalt, a first-year Ph.D. student and a 2017 graduate of the Winterthur Program in American Material Culture, was invited to the Washington Decorative Arts Forum on September 11, to present her research on a group of early Massachusetts painted chests. The subject of the talk came from her Winterthur thesis, "Revisiting Taunton: Robert Crosman, Esther Stevens Brazer, and the Changing Interpretations of Taunton Chests," which examines the 18th-century production, and early-20th century collecting, of a group of approximately two-dozen chests attributed to the same craftsman's shop.
