The conference was organized by and held at the Deutsches Historisches Institut/Institut historique allemand [German Historical Institute] in Paris, devoted to "Charlemagne: Les temps, les espaces, les hommes; Construction et déconstruction d'un règne" [Charlemagne: Time, Space, and People; Construction and Deconstruction of a Reign]. It was a three-day interdisciplinary conference bringing together historians, archaeologists, art historians and literary specialists. Professor Nees, the only participant from the U.S., gave a paper on "Networks or Schools? The Production of Illuminated Manuscripts and Ivories during the Reign of Charlemagne." The papers will all be published next year, but they were also presented live on the internet (scroll to 1:07:20 for the presentation by Professor Nees).
