This week, on Oct. 8, Professor Ikem Stanle​y Okoye will take part in a special critical discussion, bringing together a group of scholars from across the globe to speak on the subject of "Sahelian Urbanism" as part of the on-going online exhibition African Mobilities 2.0., curated by Mpho Matsipa. Other distinguished speakers will include AbdouMaliq Simone, University of Sheffield, England; Jean-Charles Tall, architecture, Collège Universitaire d'Architecture de Dakar, Senegal; Adeline Masquelier, anthropology, Tulane University; Ousseina Alidou, linguistics, Rutgers University; and Maimouna Abdoulaye Barro, gender and education, University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign. Hosted by the University of the Witwatersrand's Institute for Social and Economic Research (WiSER) and funded by the Goethe Institute and the Mellon Foundation, the discussion will be available as a SoundCloud podcast soon after the Zoom event.
On Nov. 12, Okoye will give a talk titled "Elusive Things: Materialities and Spatialities in the vicinity of Nigér" as part of the School of Architecture and Planning 2020-21 lecture series, supported by the Aga Khan Program for Islamic Architecture (AKPIA) at Harvard University and MIT.
