From Oct. 10 to 11, five University of Delaware Art History alumni and students will present at the "Un-Fair Trades: Artistic Intersections with Social and Environmental Injustices in the Atlantic World" conference at the City University of New York (CUNY). Numerous art historians will examine the representation of social and environmental concerns in art dating 1500-present.
UD presenters are as follows:
Alan C. Braddock (Associate Professor at William and Mary), "Humanitas Literae Fruges: Alexander von Humboldt and the Art of Empire" (keynote)
Sandra Cheng (Associate Professor at CUNY), "In Detention: Art and Immigration in the Case of the Golden Venture Refugees"
Zoë Colón (Ph.D. student), "Material Absence, Relational Presence: Courtney Leonard's Breach Series and Whales as Medium"
Michael Hartman (Ph.D. student), "Albert Bierstadt's American West as 'The Italy of America in a Primitive Condition'"
Joseph Daniel Litts (M.A. student), "Weaving Together War and Memory in Isaac Vincent's Cherokee Basket"
