Emily Shartrand, who recently defended her dissertation, traveled to Rome to participate in the Winter School for Latin Paleography and Codicology at the Rome Global Gateway in partnership with the Vatican Apostolic Library. The two-week program teaches students how to decipher and date historical manuscripts as well as analyze and interpret the physical construction of books. In her free time, Shartrand is touring the city, especially medieval period churches.
