Transfer of Credits

The Department of Art History assigns a University of Delaware equivalent for only Art History courses, or for courses taken in other fields such as Art, History, Archaeology, etc., with contents similar to the course offerings of the Department of Art History. Students may obtain approval fo​r transfer credit either before or after the course has been taken. For approval, you will need to read the information provided at the links below and submit the documentation requested.

All students seeking Transfer of Credit from another institution or pre-approval of study abroad courses should first consult the information provided by the University Registrar. All students must also complete and sign the University's Transfer Credit Evaluation Form, available on the Registrar's website.

If you are requesting transfer of credits for courses taken at another institution prior to attending the University of Delaware, including reevaluations of transfer credits, please read How to Transfer Credits to UD.

Go to the Transfer Credit Matrix​ to see if the desired courses have previously been approved for transfer credit. If the course does not appear, then email the following documentation to the address listed below:

• Your name and UD ID number
• The name of your previous institution and your major while you attended
• Official course description from the course you completed, including course number, title, and number of credits
• A course syllabus, containing the topics or areas covered in the course, reading assignments and evaluation format (in Word or PDF format)
• The term in which you took the course (example: fall 2015)
• The web link to your previous institution's course catalog for the academic year(s) your courses were taken
• The web link to your previous institution's homepage

If you are currently enrolled at UD and seek pre-approval for transfer credits from another institution:

First, consult the Tr​ansfer Credit Matrix to see if the course you wish to get credit for has already been approved. If that course is already in the Matrix, there is nothing you have to do.

Next, if the course does not appear in the Matrix, then email the following documentation (in Word or PDF format) to: arth_creditstransfer@udel.edu

• Your name and UD ID number
• The name of the institution where you will take the course
• The official description of the course you will take, including course number, title, number of credits and the term you will take the course (for example: Spring 2023)
• The course syllabus and schedule, including topics covered, reading and assessment assignments, such as papers, quizzes, etc. This information should be as detailed as possible
• A web link to the institution's homepage and to its course catalog

If your request is accepted for pre-approval, you will be given credit for ARTH166. If you prefer to receive credit for a different course number, you will need to submit additional material, including any further details of the course, along with the work you completed for the course. This material can be in the form of PDFs, screenshots of LMS sites or documents sent directly from course instructors. A generic syllabus will NOT be accepted for re-evaluation, nor will cut-and-paste documents or any other item whose authenticity cannot be confirmed. ​

Requests for transfer credit are ordinarily processed in two to three weeks. The student will be notified by email when the request has been approved or if additional information is required. You must print and attach a copy of the approval to the Transfer of Credit Evaluation.
