Professor Jennifer Van Horn's 2009 article "The Mask of Civility: Portraits of Colonial Women and the Transatlantic Masquerade" is celebrated as a landmark in the new, 30th anniversary special issue of American Art. In his tribute, Leo Mazow writes that the article "lays the groundwork for new approaches to art produced in the decades leading up to the American Revolution and, not surprisingly, was a hit with my seminar students."
